Still #1: Jay Krohnengold as “MR. GROMMEL”

On the heels of releasing our official movie poster, I’m proud to present our first film still from Sly Sylvester.

The still features Jay Krohnengold as “MR. GROMMEL,” the cantankerous, by-the-book landlord who stands in the way of our protagonist’s elaborate plans to impress his crush.

Quick Q&A with Julia

Our final cast member to go through the “Sly Sylvester Q&A Gauntlet” is Ms. Julia Simone, who will be temporarily trading her sneakers for girly shoes as she plays the “Paula,” the overly-done-up flirt that lives in the apartment building.

Do you see any similarities between you and “Paula,” the character you will be playing?

I think I see Paula as the girl I attempted to be right out of college. She’s highly feminine and aware of her physical appearance. I think Paula, for all of her naivete, is quite aware of her looks and ability to attract a man. I certainly know what it is like to try to be those things, but where I think they come naturally for her, for myself it was quite forced. I have a feeling Paula’s closet is filled with frilly things and high heels, while mine is filled with v-necks and one too many pairs of sneakers.

How do you feel about kitty cats?

I love my cats (Layla and Taz) and I had a cat before them (Abby) which lived for 18 years. When she passed away I didn’t think I could ever have a pet again, but then I went to the shelter and was lucky to leave with only 2. I’m the person who loves to have my own pets, but is very tentative around other peoples. I don’t dislike pets that aren’t my own, but I feel there is a “getting to know you” period with all beings and I feel cats can be the most diva of all the animal kingdom.

What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever done to impress someone or to get the opportunity to talk to them?

Oh, I’ve done so many ridiculous things to get to know people or talk to them, but it always just becomes awkward…awkward situations are my forte. In college I had this sociology class and on the first day, the professor had us play a game. On your paper there were statements like “I have more than 5 siblings”, so you went around the room looking for a person who could say yes to your question, thus sparking conversation. There was this girl who I thought was cute and so I approached her, assuming she would have something on her sheet that I could say “yes” to. I was so caught up in wanting to talk to this girl that before I knew what happened I found myself saying “yes” to “I am a naturalized citizen”. As soon as I heard the words leaving my mouth, I wanted them back-but she was so surprised by my answer, she kept asking me questions about it. I had gotten her talking, but it all went horribly awry. For the rest of the semester, I couldn’t bring myself to even look her in the eye, much less speak with her. That’s pretty much how all my attempts at being smooth go.
